Wild Weather Coming to Victoria

For everyone living in Victoria here comes more rain:

ABOUT 5000 Victorian State Emergency Service volunteers are on standby as strong winds and heavy rain are expected to buffet the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning, advising heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in western and central areas on Friday night and Saturday.

The weather front is expected to start moving across the state tonight, reaching Victoria’s south-west early tomorrow morning before hitting metropolitan Melbourne in the late morning.

The front will then move towards Gippsland in the afternoon.

“All our volunteers are on standby,” an SES spokeswoman said.

The SES is advising people to move vehicles away from trees and secure loose items around property.

Winds of 70km/h to 80km/h are expected, with gusts around 120km/h predicted in the Alpine district on tonight.

Southerly winds averaging 50km/h to 70km/h with gusts around 100km/h are expected to buffet the state on tomorrow.

The bureau’s duty meteorologist James Taylor said Victoria could expect rainfalls of up to 50mm tomorrow. [AAP]
