On Walkabout At: K-BOB’s Steakhouse In Ruidoso

This past weekend my wife and I made one of our regular trips to beautiful Ruidoso located in New Mexico’s White Mountains.  Every time we drive up to Ruidoso we always stop to have lunch at our favorite restaurant in the area, K-BOB’s:

K-BOB's In Ruidoso

K-BOB’s has 16 locations spread across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Colorado.  What I find interesting about the locations of the K-BOB’s restaurants are that they are not ever in a major city.  For example the two major cities in the area where I live, El Paso and Albuquerque do not have a K-BOB’s, but the much smaller cities of Ruidoso, Truth & Consquences, and Socorro, New Mexico all do have restaurants.  Even in the other states none of the major cities like Dallas, Houston, Denver, etc. have K-BOB’s.  It seems like the intentionally target smaller towns that have a country/western vibe to it like Ruidoso has.

The K-BOB’s in Ruidoso is nicely furnished with of course country/western interior and most of the people you see eating there look like they just came off the ranch to grab lunch.  Since I am from small town Colorado, K-BOB’s is the type of restaurant I really feel comfortable eating at plus the fact that the food is great helps as well.  What I ordered was the ribeye steak, which is pretty much what I order every time I come here because it is so good.  They also serve a New York Strip here, which I have ordered before but I don’t like the seasoning on it.  It is too spicy where as the ribeye is seasoned just perfectly.  There are various sides you can order with the steak, but I always get the baked potato and broccoli with my ribeye:

The ribeyes at K-BOB’s are so good you do not need steak sauce, which is a key sign of a good steak.  The broccoli always has a fresh taste and the baked potato with everything on it is always perfect.  My wife usually gets the ribeye as well, but this time she went with K-BOB’s kebabs:

These are actually quite good as well and something I order occasionally just to try something different from time to time at K-BOB’s.  Like with the ribeye these kebabs do not need steak sauce because they are flavored just right.  My wife also always goes with the baked potato and broccoli for her sides.  Our meals along with the salad bar and drinks came out to about $35.  You really can’t beat the value for such high quality food.  I have eaten at much more expensive steakhouses before that do not match the taste of K-BOB’s.  I can’t vouch for all the other K-BOB’s franchise, but I can tell you that the one in Ruidoso has always treated us with great atmosphere, service, and of course food.  So check it out if in town.
