Floods Again Hit Southeast Queensland

This year the words “flood” and “Queensland” are synonymous with each other:

HEAVY flooding has caused widespread problems in southeast Queensland, with a girl missing after being swept off a weir and campers rescued on the Sunshine Coast.

Flood warnings have been issued for coastal regions and the hinterland from Rockhampton, in central Queensland, to the Gold Coast, south of Brisbane.

Campers have been rescued from floodwaters near Gympie and homes flooded on the Sunshine Coast hinterland with residents in nearby settlements warned to prepare for flooding.

The search for a 12-year-old girl, swept off a flooded weir in Caboolture this afternoon, was called off due to fading light.

The weather bureau said more heavy rain was expected during the next 24 hours.

The bureau warns of stream rises, flooding and possible flash flooding in coastal streams and rivers overnight and tomorrow.

The ABC says there have been unofficial reports of one person injured in a landslide on the Bruce Highway at Black Mountain.

Around 200mm of rain was reported in three hours around the Bustard Heads area near Bundaberg this afternoon.

The weather has played havoc with Easter holidaymakers returning to Brisbane from both the Sunshine and Gold coasts.  [AAP]
