Beer Safety 101

If you have ever been to Alice Springs, this story will not surprise you in the least:

A DRIVER has “shocked and appalled” police after he stared them “blankly” when they caught him with a seatbelt around his slab of beer – but not on the five-year-old boy sitting next to it.

Constable Wayne Burnett of the Northern Territory Police said he was “shocked and appalled” when he pulled over the Holden Commodore on the Ross Highway south of  Alice Springs on the weekend.

“I haven’t ever seen something like this before,” he said.

“Sure we get beer out of vehicles that is being taken into restricted areas but this is the first time that the beer has taken priority over a child.”

He said the driver of the car “just looked at me blankly” when he was handed a $750 fine for driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and failing to ensure a child is wearing a seatbelt.

“He didn’t get it,” Const Burnett said.  [Daily Telegraph]

There was a total of five people in the car and not one of them had their seat belts on other then the case of beer.  You have gotta love the NT.
